Brisbane safety overview for solo female travellers
Brisbane is Australia's third-largest city and one of its friendliest. For solo female travellers, it offers a relaxed, subtropical atmosphere with excellent safety. The city sits along the Brisbane River and has transformed in recent years with South Bank's cultural precinct, rooftop bars, and a growing food scene.
South Bank is the cultural heart of Brisbane and feels completely safe, it has a man-made beach, the Gallery of Modern Art, restaurants, and parklands. The CBD, Fortitude Valley, New Farm, and West End are all popular inner-city neighbourhoods. Fortitude Valley ("the Valley") is Brisbane's nightlife hub, it's fun but can get messy on weekend nights, so exercise normal city-at-night awareness.
Brisbane is the gateway to the Gold Coast (1 hour south), Sunshine Coast (1.5 hours north), and Moreton Island. Day trips are easy and popular with solo travellers. The public transport system (buses, trains, ferries) uses the go card and covers the city well. The weather is warm year-round, Brisbane gets more sunshine than any other Australian capital.
