Brussels safety overview for solo female travellers
Brussels is a cosmopolitan capital with a mix of grand European architecture, world-class museums, and an incredible food scene. For solo female travellers, the city is generally safe, especially in the central tourist areas around Grand Place, Sablon, and the European Quarter. These areas are well-lit, well-policed, and busy at most hours.
Some neighbourhoods require more awareness, particularly around Gare du Midi (South Station) and parts of Molenbeek, especially after dark. The metro system is efficient and mostly safe, though it's best to avoid empty carriages late at night. Brussels is a walkable city, and the centre is compact enough to explore on foot during the day.
Belgian culture is relaxed and welcoming, and solo dining is completely normal, this is the land of moules-frites and craft beer, after all. The comic book murals scattered across the city make for a perfect solo walking tour. Saint-Gilles and Ixelles are vibrant, diverse neighbourhoods popular with young professionals and great for solo travellers looking for a local feel.
