Is Perth Safe for Solo Female Travellers?

🇦🇺 Australia

Perth safety overview for solo female travellers

Perth is the most isolated major city in the world, the nearest city of comparable size is Adelaide, over 2,000km away. But that remoteness comes with incredible perks: pristine beaches, a relaxed atmosphere, and one of the safest urban environments you'll find anywhere. For solo female travellers, Perth is about as stress-free as it gets.

The city centre is compact and walkable, with Kings Park offering panoramic views over the Swan River. Fremantle ("Freo") is a charming port town just 30 minutes away by train, with markets, craft breweries, and a creative community. Cottesloe and Scarborough beaches are gorgeous and safe. Northbridge is the nightlife district, fine but can get rowdy on Friday and Saturday nights.

Perth's main challenge for solo travellers is that the city is spread out and car-dependent outside the central areas. The train network covers the coast and suburbs but frequency drops in the evenings. Uber and taxis fill the gaps. The pace of life here is slower than Sydney or Melbourne, many solo travellers find that refreshing. Rottnest Island, with its famous quokkas, is an unmissable day trip.
