Dublin is a compact, friendly city with a legendary pub culture and a literary heritage that makes it perfect for solo exploration. For solo female travellers, Dublin is safe, the Irish are famously warm and talkative, and you'll rarely feel alone for long in a Dublin pub.
The safest and most enjoyable neighbourhoods include Temple Bar (touristy but lively), Georgian Dublin around Merrion Square, Portobello (quiet, canal-side, great brunch spots), Rathmines (local feel, good restaurants), and Howth (a coastal village at the end of the DART line, perfect for a solo day trip).
Areas needing more awareness include parts of the north inner city around O'Connell Street and the Liffey boardwalk at night, and some streets around Heuston Station. The Liberties area is improving but some blocks can feel quiet and poorly lit after dark. Dublin's drug issue is visible in parts of the city centre but doesn't typically affect tourists.
Dublin is very walkable, the city centre is compact and most attractions are within a 20-minute walk. The DART (coastal rail) and Luas (tram) are safe and useful. Pub culture is the social backbone, solo women are welcomed everywhere, and a pint at the bar is the fastest way to meet people.
