Is Geneva Safe for Solo Female Travellers?

🇨🇭 Switzerland

Geneva safety overview for solo female travellers

Geneva is one of the safest cities in the world for solo female travellers. Home to the United Nations, the Red Cross, and countless international organisations, it's a city built on diplomacy and order. The streets are clean, public transport is punctual, and crime rates are among the lowest in Europe.

The city sits on the shores of Lake Geneva with the Alps as a backdrop, it's stunning. The Old Town (Vieille Ville) is charming and compact, with cobblestone streets, cathedral views, and plenty of cafés. The Jet d'Eau fountain and the lakeside promenade are perfect for solo walks. The Pâquis neighbourhood near the train station is the most diverse and lively area, though it can feel slightly less polished at night.

The biggest challenge in Geneva is the cost, it's one of the most expensive cities in the world. Budget carefully for meals and accommodation. On the plus side, public transport is free for hotel guests (you get a free transport card at check-in), and many museums offer free entry on the first Sunday of each month.
