Copenhagen is one of the safest and happiest cities in the world, and for solo female travellers, it's an outstanding destination. Danish culture values equality, personal freedom, and hygge, that cosy, welcoming atmosphere that makes even a solo coffee feel special.
Virtually every bydel in Copenhagen is safe. Indre By (the historic centre) is compact and walkable, with Nyhavn, Strøget, and the Round Tower. Vesterbro has transformed from a red-light area into the city's trendiest neighbourhood, Meatpacking District restaurants, independent design shops, and excellent coffee. Nørrebro is multicultural and hip, with the stunning Assistens Cemetery where Hans Christian Andersen is buried.
Freetown Christiania is Copenhagen's famous self-governing commune. It's a tourist attraction and generally safe to visit during the day, but photography is strictly forbidden on Pusher Street (the cannabis market area), and the atmosphere can change quickly. Some solo travellers prefer to visit with someone else or on a guided tour.
Copenhagen is best explored by bike, the city is flat and has world-class cycling infrastructure. The metro and S-train are clean and safe. Everything is expensive (this is Scandinavia), but many attractions are covered by the Copenhagen Card.

Nyhavn, Strøget shopping, Tivoli, Rosenborg Castle, Christiansborg. Copenhagen's tourist heart. Very safe — Denmark is one of the safest countries.
The Little Mermaid statue, Kastellet fortress, residential. Safe and pleasant.
Technically separate municipality. Frederiksberg Gardens, zoo, elegant streets. Very safe.
Amager Strandpark beach. Airport nearby. Safe.
Freetown Christiania, Islands Brygge waterfront. Interesting and safe.
Residential with the Carlsberg District (old brewery turned cultural area). Safe.
Suburban residential. Safe and quiet.
Copenhagen's trendiest area. Kødbyen (Meatpacking District) for food and nightlife. Mostly gentrified but lower Istedgade still has visible drug use and sex work. Tourist areas are safe.
Copenhagen's most multicultural area. Mostly safe and vibrant, but has had gang-related incidents in outer areas. Assistens Cemetery, Jægersborggade, Superkilen. Tourist areas are fine — use awareness in outer residential blocks at night.
Residential with the stunning Grundtvig's Church. Mostly safe, but Tingbjerg area has social challenges and has been on Denmark's "ghetto list". Tourist areas (Grundtvig's Church) are perfectly safe.
Suburban residential. Mostly safe but Husum has some social housing areas with challenges. Not a tourist area.
