Stockholm is built on 14 islands connected by bridges, making it one of Europe's most beautiful capitals. For solo female travellers, it's very safe, Sweden consistently ranks among the top countries in the world for gender equality, and the city reflects this in its culture and infrastructure.
The safest and most enjoyable stadsdelar include Gamla Stan (the old town, cobblestone streets, colourful buildings, the Royal Palace), Östermalm (upscale, elegant, great food halls), Södermalm (hipster heart of Stockholm, vintage shops, rooftop bars, incredible views), and Djurgården (the island with Vasa Museum, ABBA Museum, and Skansen).
Rinkeby and Tensta in the outer suburbs have different reputations, but they're not areas tourists typically visit and aren't relevant to most solo travellers. The city centre and inner suburbs are uniformly safe. The main "risk" in Stockholm is the cost, it's expensive for accommodation, food, and drinks.
The Tunnelbana (metro) is famous for its art-decorated stations and is clean, safe, and efficient. Ferries between islands are part of the public transport system and a beautiful way to get around. Stockholm is a city built for solo exploration, museum-hopping, island walks, fika (coffee and cake) culture.

Central Stockholm — T-Centralen, Kungsträdgården, Drottninggatan shopping. Very safe, well-policed. Sweden is extremely safe for solo women.
Cool, trendy island. SoFo district, vintage shops, rooftop bars, Fotografiska. One of the best areas in Europe for solo travellers.
Affluent with Östermalms Saluhall food hall. Elegant, safe.
City Hall (Nobel Prize dinner), waterfront walks. Residential, safe, lovely.
Western suburb with Bromma airport. Safe residential.
Western suburban. Safe and quiet.

Kista (Silicon Valley of Sweden) is modern and safe. Rinkeby has social challenges and higher crime. Very different vibes within the same district.
