Reykjavik safety overview for solo female travellers
Reykjavik is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in the world, and for solo female travellers, it's about as worry-free as it gets. Iceland has virtually no violent crime, and the capital feels more like a large village than a city. You can walk anywhere at any hour and feel completely safe.
The city centre is tiny and entirely walkable, everything from Hallgrímskirkja to the harbour is within a 15-minute walk. The famous Laugavegur shopping street is the main artery, and the side streets are full of cosy cafés and quirky shops. There's a strong solo travel culture here, and you'll meet plenty of other independent travellers.
The main challenges in Iceland aren't safety-related, they're weather and cost. Winters are dark and cold, summers have near-24-hour daylight. Everything is expensive, from accommodation to food to tours. The Blue Lagoon and Golden Circle are the classic day trips, and both are easily done solo via organised tours.
