Zagreb safety overview for solo female travellers
Zagreb is one of Europe's most underrated capitals and one of the safest cities on the continent for solo female travellers. The Upper Town (Gornji Grad) with its cobblestone streets and the lively Lower Town (Donji Grad) with its parks and cafés both feel welcoming and secure at virtually all hours.
Crime rates are very low, and violent crime against tourists is extremely rare. The main thing to watch for is the occasional pickpocketing in crowded tram stops or at the Dolac market. The tram network is excellent and safe, making it easy to get around without a car.
Croatian café culture is a highlight, locals spend hours at outdoor terraces, and you'll fit right in as a solo traveller with a book and a coffee. The Tkalčićeva street is the social heart of the city, lined with bars and restaurants that are friendly to solo diners. Zagreb also serves as a perfect base for day trips to Plitvice Lakes or the Adriatic coast.
